OOTD-I've got the Blues

Who says you have to be tall to wear a maxi skirt?! Not this girl! I'm obsessed with maxi skirts and dresses even at my proud 4'10 stature!

Today's OOTD features a shear maxi skirt with blue & black stripes and a plain white tee tied at the hip. I've paired it with matching blue/black earrings and my faithful gold "C" script necklace an black sandals.
If you wanted to dress up a similar look; you can pair a maxi with a button up and tie it at the hip and pop the collar just a little, also add a big chunky necklace to spice things up!

What are you guys wearing today?

2nd day Hair with Curls

I try an wash my hair every other day because it gets so oily so quickly, but it's best to go about 3-4 days before washing your hair. I can't do that, I become a oily monster!
When I have extra time (usually on the weekends) I like to curl my hair. My hair always holds a much better curl on the 2nd day.

Here's a quick how I curl my hair for 2nd day wear!

When you have oily hair like me, dry shampoo becomes your best friend! I start off by applying this to my roots, giving it a couple seconds then brushing it through my hair. I usually don't purchase this brand, and to be honest, once I'm through with it, I won't be buying it again! It doesn't do nearly as good as my faithfully Batiste Dry shampoo; this one is color tinted for brunette or blonde hair! The one picture comes out with a white cast, which isn't good for my dark hair.
After I hit my hair with dry shampoo, then I section off my hair to get ready to curl. I use this curling iron from Remington. I got it at Walmart about two years ago and it makes curling your hair super easy. It has indents where you place your hair and you come out with a pretty nice curl. I don't use the little clamp, it is supposed to hold your hair in place, I wrap my hair around the barrel myself and hold it, you get the same affect.

This next step is optional, but I think it makes my hair hold a little more and if I dare to go a 3rd day without washing my hair its when I apply Not Your Mother's Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. I don't spray to much because it does make my hair feel kind of crunchy, but just a few sprays gives my hair the extra wave to where it doesn't looks like I tried to perfectly curly my hair.
Lastly, I think its important to apply some oil to your hands and run it through your hair, this will take away any frizz or fly always. I'm currently using Garnier Marvelous Oil, then hit your hair with some hair spray to set everything and your done. This usually takes me about 15-20 minutes to do everything from start to finish.
Let me know what 2nd or 3rd day style you guys have, I'm always looking for new ideas!

My Surprise Day!

I always say that I want surprises for my birthday, but I can't stand the anticipation of a surprise. For the last few weeks my husband has been saying, "are you ready for Sunday?, Don't make any plans for Sunday the 18th.", but wouldn't give any clue as to what we were doing. So finally the date has came and went, this is how the big day went.

I was told to wake up bright and early to get dressed and be ready since our ride would be here to pick us up at 9 am. Our ride was our old roommate Kris! When then left to pick up my brother and his girl friend, with the five of us in the car we traveled down the highway toward Louisville; I still had no idea what we were doing, it was a nice surprise when we pulled into the parking lot of the Louisville Zoo.

I'd never been to the Louisville Zoo before, that had a huge selection of animals to see from the ones pictured to giraffes, polar bears and some pretty creepy looking bats!

The day wasn't over yet! We left the zoo and had lunch at the Cheese Cake Factory! It was so good! We got the greatest Mac & Cheese fried appetizers that I probably could have ate 20 of!
Unfortunately, I ate so much for lunch that if couldn't get any cheese cake! I couldn't have decided anyway, they have so many options.
After lunch, I was given free rein to shop! Of course I had to go in the two-story Forever 21. I spent basically all of time here until the mall closed. Nathan bought me a really cute maxi skirt, gold & black muscle tee and a adorable pair of black wedges! We were also able to go into a Nordstrom Rack and get a few designer things for a pretty good deal as well.

Shopping was over, I thought the day was over and we were heading back home, but then came the last surprise of the day. They were taking me to see Godzilla in IMAX! I was so excited! Is always wanted to see a movie in IMAX and I love all the Godzilla movies (which I liked this one as well!)

Overall, it was a great surprise! The whole day was so much fun and I got to spend it with some of my favorite people. I know one thing, I'm so lucky to have a husband like Nathan, he went to so much trouble to plan the entire day for me and keep it a secret! I couldn't have asked for a better husband!

Beauty Box 5 Review- May

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly beauty subscription box. It's one of the cheapest  boxes you can get monthly! This is my first box I've ever received from this company!

What you need to know

The cost: $12/month (or $10/month for a 3 month membership; $8.25/month for a year membership)

The contents: Each beauty box contains 4-5 deluxe size and some full sized samples! Each box also comes with a product card describing each item and listing the retail values.

This months box contained:
CATTIVA precision Eye Liner (Full size) $20
I like that it's a retractable pencil and it's waterproof, but I've never heard of the brand before so I'm excited to try it out! This product has already paid for the membership of the box!

H2O Plus Spa Hand & Nail Cream (30 ml) $2
I've never heard of this brand before, so I don't really have an option, but it feels really great on the skin. So I like it so far and I love any product dealing with nail care!

Harvey Prince Hello (2ml) $2
I'm not the biggest fan of perfume samples, but this actually smells good. Great fresh, citrus scent for spring!

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing lotion (1 oz) $1
This is a fragrance free lotion built to improve the health of skin. Not super excited about this, but I'll keep this in my purse as a travel lotion.

Ban Total Refresh Cooling Body Cloths  (3 Cloths) $1

Never used anything like this before, so I'm interested in trying this! I think they would be great after the gym or just to freshen up.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my first Beauty Box 5. I did get my first box free because I used a coupon code, so I'm excited to see what next month box looks like compared to monthly subscription price.

If you get this box or any other beauty boxes you think I'd like please comment below!

My Favorite Spring Trends

Spring has finally sprung and this years Spring trends are in my opinion some of the best.

Here are some of my top favorite Spring trends!

Pastels
Pastels can be seen every where this spring from the streets, runway even the red carpet! I think that pastels are such a feminine look and they flatter so many skin tones. They give off a more "dressed up" feel even if your rocking a blouse and skinny jeans. Of course it's a great color palette for Spring!

Ankle Strap Shoes
I'm so in love with the ankle strap shoe! From flats, wedges and heels, I love them all! The ankle strap has such a feminine look to it and every style looks great with dress, skirts and pants! My favorite way to wear my ankle strap heels is with a pair of skinny jeans cuffed so you can see the strap.

MIDI Skirts
This is by far my favorite Spring trend and to be honest, I was rocking the midi, before Spring! I have too many in my closet right now to even count! I love how versatile midis can be; you can dress them up with heels and great jewelry or down with a tee and scandals. Anyone can successfully pull off the midi look from a petite gal like myself to a full figured beauty. This is one Spring trend that I will continue to wear well into the summer and fall!

I believe that there are no rules in fashion and you can wear whatever makes you feel the most confident! Weather you follow trends or march to the beat of your own drum! What are some of your favorite fashion trends, either for Spring or that you're still rocking?

Fashion Fridays (For Less!)

Playing dress up is one my favorite parts of the day! Beautiful skirts, jewelry and don't even get me started about BOLD PRINTS and crazy colors! I believe that life is all about standing out and what better way for you to turn a couple heads than with your clothes. I love trying out different and bold patterns, but sometimes that can get pricey! Fashion doesn't always have to be expensive, shop sales and be adventurous with your fashion hunt; one of favorite places to shop is the thrift store! It can save you tones of money and you can find some great pieces, just don't be afraid to look!

Here's this weeks Fashion Friday (For Less!)
Black Converse Dress Tee: $6 from Target

Leopard Print Midi: $3 from Goodwill

Black Pumps: $15 from Bluetique

"C" Script necklace: $8 from Bluetique

Gold knot studs: $10 from Calypso

My entire look was less than $45 and I feel great in it! The skirt of course is my favorite part (anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE skirts and animal prints!) I hardly buy anything full price anymore! Everything listed was purchase during a sale or thrifted.

I would love to see what looks you guys come up with & if you go thrifting I would love to see what you purchased! Remember, be adventurous with your fashion!
Have a great Mother's Day weekend everyone!

OOTD & Derby Weekend

The first Saturday in May holds a very special place in all Kentuckians hearts, it's known as the Kentucky Derby; "The most exciting two minutes in sports!" Held annually in Louisville, men and women, even celebrities travel across the globe to help celebrate this time honored, Kentucky tradition to "Run for the Roses". Many women dress in stunning, summery dresses and accessorize with over the top, glamorous hats. Here are some examples of this years looks.

While everyone in my great state of Kentucky was betting for their horse to win, I was happy to be apart of a lovely family wedding at Highbridge Pavilion.

It was a great day for a wedding, warm weather and no rain! No one could have planned better. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the happy couple, because I running around helping with everything, but I did manage to snag a couple. My husband was the best man, he looked very handsome in his tux (he always does!) I wore a simple fitted,  KY blue, bold printed dress and paired it with a blue stretch belt with gold hard wear. Added black heels and wristlet, I also wore gold jewelry to match the buttons and belt. No derby hat for this gal today, even though I think they are fabulous!
Nathan, Granny & myself
My husband & his Granny
(They don't like taking pictures)
My husbands Cousin,
Sarah M.
Me on the overlook at the bridge

How did you spend Derby weekend? Watching the big race, did you win big? Or did you spend time with your family like me? As always, look and feel your best; whatever you choose to wear, feel confident in it and smile, after all it is your best accessory!

April Beauty Favorites!

I've been loving so many great products this past month I just had to share them with you guys! If you've tried any of these products I would love to know what you thought and if they worked for you!

L'Oreal Youth Code Texture Perfector Line ($20-$25 each)
I can't say enough good things about this whole line. I started using the Pore Vanisher first and I have noticed my pores have gotten smaller (I've been using this for about 2 months). It's very similar to Benefits Porefessional, in color and feel. You apply the Pore Vanisher under your foundation to act as a primer. Then I fell in love with the serum and the night cream- I use these mainly at night, even though the cream is day or night; I probably will never use anything else again. First off they have a a pink hue to them (how cute is that!! I know, I'm ridiculous!) you apply the serum first, then go in with the night cream. They work wonders together; for a drugstore skincare line they are super luxurious feeling, thick and creamy and I have really noticed a huge difference in the appearance of my skin since using these products. I highly recommend these if your dealing with some texture, pore or line issues! Start taking care of your skin at a young age ladies and no one will ever know your real age!

Real Technics Beauty Blender($6)
Don't wanna pay $20 for the original Beauty Blender? Get this bad boy! It's only $6!!! It's does the same thing as a B.B. but for a fraction of the cost. I love a B.B. for the spring/summer because it sheers out my foundations making it feel weightless, it also give a very natural appearance to your makeup. For makeup beginners, this is also so super easy to apply liquids! You don't have to worry about streaks or not blending anything out!

MAC lipstick in "Cream Cup"($15)
I have never been into nude lipsticks, but this is a stunning pinky nude. I've been reaching for it a lot over the last month; it goes with any look, a smoky eye, natural makeup. This lipstick is a creamsheen formula, so it is not drying on the lips! My favorite formula from MAC. This would compliment so many skin tones.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in "Opal"($38)
OMG! This is perfection, the prettiest highlight shade I own. I just can't get enough of it. It's a golden highlight so it gives a great dewy glow to the cheekbones, but very light handed with it. A little goes a long way! You don't wanna go around looking like a disco ball (or if you do, than do your thang!) this is also a great dupe for MACs "Whisper of Gilt" which is limited addition.

Milani baked blush in "Luminoso"($8)
There is absolutely no reason why no one should not own this blush! It's only $8 and it's amazing! If you know anything about Milani products than you know they are raved about for their blushes and this one is always mentioned first. Go out, get it now and then you know what I'm talking about. Its a beautiful peachy, coral shade with little flicks of gold running through it, so it will really give a great glow to the cheeks! It will suit a variety of skin tones.  Perfect for spring and summer!

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask($26)
If you read my last blog post, then you knew I had to shout this guy out. I'm still loving this luxurious lip treatment. I've never dealt with chapped lips before, but when I wear matte lipsticks, it would cause my lipsticks to sort of crack throughout the day. Since I have been applying this nightly, I have not had that problem. If you are familiar with the retro matte formals from MAC then you know exactly what I'm talking about! Now, I don't even worry with reapplying any lip balm through the day!

Again, I'd love to know of you've tried out any of my April favorites.

Kisses,
The Little Lady
